Cirdan are delighted to announce that our CEO Hugh Cormican has been shortlisted as one of eight finalists for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Ireland award 2024. We are thrilled to see Cirdan’s innovations be recognised amongst a prestigious group of finalists across the island of Ireland!
EY shares ‘Now in its 27th year, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Ireland programme operates across all 32 counties on the island of Ireland’, and ‘honors leaders who demonstrate excellence in areas such as innovation, financial performance, social responsibility, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
Each annual program concludes with a competition and announcement of category winners — such as industry and innovation winners — and an overall winner. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges who are successful, innovative entrepreneurs themselves.
The EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Ireland programme not only ensures national and international recognition for successful finalists and Alumni but also provides invaluable networking and business opportunities within a growing, 600+ strong EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ Ireland Alumni community.’
Speaking on his ‘lightbulb moment’ in starting up Cirdan, Hugh comments ‘During a visit to a pathology lab, I met a pathologist who emphasised that her most important tool was her eyes. Much of her work involved examining tissue samples, either directly or through a microscope. She explained that her job primarily consisted of describing what she saw in words. However, she didn’t take pictures because she lacked a way to manage them. At that moment, I realised that this was a bottleneck for implementing imaging solutions in pathology diagnostic workflows, presenting a clear market opportunity’.
Since that moment, Hugh has truly maintained the vision across Cirdan to improve patient wellbeing through our range of innovations, which has since grown and expanded vastly to include more stages in the patient diagnosis pathway.
The entire team at Cirdan are thrilled to see Hugh listed as one of the eight finalists for the Entrepreneur of the Year Ireland award and see that our company is truly making a difference for the better in the world of healthcare, and specifically to patient diagnosis. We wish him, and all of the finalists, the very best of luck!
