People Behind the Product: Labs, LIS & Life
Meet Emily Grattan, one of Cirdan’s extensive Clinical Team based in sunny Australia! Emily joined Cirdan back in 2020 as a Lab Analyst. Having previously worked in the lab, Emily ‘changed sides’ and came to work on and improve our LIS, ULTRA, for the benefit of our lab staff users around the world, which is now a major part of her role.
Outside of work, Emily is an outgoing and particularly enjoys a game or two of tennis – a passion which extends to her entire family! She is also a self-confessed nutrition fanatic, spending much of her time curating colourful, healthy meals. She loves to constantly challenge herself and strive for new goals. She has certainly done that in her time at Cirdan!
We caught up with Emily to get a deeper insight into the daily life of a Senior Lab Analyst, and how Cirdan forms an integral part of her busy life.
What activities does your job involve on a daily basis?
No two days are ever the same in my role as a Lab Analyst, which does keep me on my toes. Multitasking is a key skill. My role covers both project work and support work for our existing customers. Project work involves implementation and configuration of a functional LIS system, that is specific for the client and their workflows. It’s always a highlight when we can work together and achieve a product that they are excited about!
What is your favourite thing about your job?
Meeting new people and working together to achieve the same goal. My first “real” job after university was in a small pathology laboratory. During this time, we upgraded our existing LIS to ULTRA, and I was fortunate to be involved in the project from the customer side. After that I decided that bench work and night shift was behind me, and I changed sides. Some of the people I knew during my time in the lab I still run into today! The opportunity to travel and meet customers face-to-face, both interstate and overseas is also a nice perk of the job!
How do you spend your time outside of work?
Standing (too nervous to sit) courtside at a tennis event! Tennis is a big deal in our family with my two boys living and breathing the game. So, for far too many nights per week, most weekends and school holidays there will be tennis on and I’ll be watching.
What are you most passionate about?
Family, health and nutrition. I always had a passion for nutrition from a personal perspective, and now with almost three teenagers in the house I can really see the difference a wholesome well-balanced diet has on their energy, mindset and general wellbeing. So, if I’m not watching them play tennis then I’m thinking about how I can fuel them!
